Unlit Vistas’ future is bright indeed.

Unlit Vistas Limited is an independent film production company, based in New Zealand. It was formed officially in 2008 by avid life-long movie lovers, Bill and Sherryn Hunt.
As a child growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, Bill wrote and illustrated horror and fantasy stories and film ideas  before developing an interest in special makeup effects. His professional movie career began in 1992 at KNB EFX Group on JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY, and his monster-making skills brought him to New Zealand in 1998, where he joined the Weta Workshop LORD OF THE RINGS team, among the first foreign talent recruited. Soon after, he again began to write original film concepts and treatments, including a group of shorts, which collectively were titled “Unlit Vistas”.
A native New Zealander, Sherryn came from a corporate background before following her movie passion. After traveling and working abroad, she returned to her home country. Landing a job at Weta Productions on JANE AND THE DRAGON, she moved on to Weta Workshop’s design room before making the jump to Weta Digital.
Sherryn and Bill met in 2006. Connecting instantly with their shared love of cinema, they were married soon after. Feeling they had some fresh ideas to offer on both the KIND of movies being made and HOW they are made, they wasted no time in forming their own production company, naming it with a nod to the past idea, Unlit Vistas.
By 2007, development was well underway on their first project; a unique take on the zombie genre, called RETURNER. Drawing on their decade in the New Zealand film industry, they quickly enlisted the help of some of the country’s top film talent to shoot a promotional teaser trailer for RETURNER. As the scale of RETURNER revealed itself to be too big for a first feature, Unlit Vistas turned their sights toward developing a few smaller projects.

In 2011, Unlit Vistas enjoyed helping out with a couple of shorts for their friends and colleagues, fellow independent film collective, ApeOnAWhale Productions. This collaboration quickly inspired the decision to attempt a feature film with their very modest, but workable resources. They attacked it as a demonstration of what could be achieved with a minimum of time and budget, and nine months later, their first feature film, FUNDAMENTAL, was completed. They were approached for distribution, but in the end decided to release the film online themselves for free download from the website and on YouTube. To date, is has over 350,000 views.
Over the years, Unlit Vistas has assembled a core team of people who share common ideals and drive. The crew is comprised of people with a passionate love and respect of film. This professional creative team brings the fresh level of energy and enthusiasm necessary to making truly innovative cinema. Having “road-tested” their highly unique and motivated team and released their first film, Unlit Vistas continues development on a number of projects, including RETURNER, retro-splatter MEZZO AL BOSCO, zombie anthology THE DAY THAT EVERYTHING CHANGED and LAMB OF GOD: FUNDAMENTAL II. At the same time, Bill is producing the progressive horror metal project, Kill For Mother, and through his involvement, Unlit Vistas looks set to bring its unique production and style to music-driven short films as well.

Unlit Vistas strives, through hard work, communication, mutual respect and integrity,
to make powerful, high-end films efficiently, without unnecessary complications.
